Emberfall Legends is the kind of RPG you didn't expect to lose an evening to. The turn-based fights start simple and slowly open up into positioning, elemental combos and a party of characters who each play differently enough to matter. The writing is a cut above the usual, with side quests that occasionally caught us off guard.
The world map is compact but dense, and travelling between hubs never felt like busywork. We especially liked that you can respec characters freely, so experimenting with builds never punishes you. Combat runs well even during busy animations.
It leans a bit heavy on menus, and the tutorial front-loads a lot of systems at once. Push through the first hour and it becomes something you'll want to return to nightly.
